Doomsday Bunker Can’t Bring Me Inner Peace

A Few Thoughts on the Apocalypse

A few years ago, I read in the news that some of the world’s ultra-rich were secretly building themselves doomsday bunkers that could withstand even nuclear Armageddon. I had a good laugh for ten seconds.

It sounded too much like a SciFi story from the 80s, where an evil group of rich and ugly old men planned to destroy the world and then rebuild it from the nuclear ashes, controlling the whole human race in the aftermath.

We all know the rich are always up to something. Watching how they talk and what they do is often good entertainment or an interesting talking point for office ladies during their coffee breaks.

Mr. Doomsday-Bunker-Owner, it’s likely that your high-tech safe house will turn into low-tech useless junk before the doomsday even comes close.

I wonder how many unnecessary medical appointments and procedures the ultra-rich have taken as well.

The worst apocalypse, to me, is believing that wealth can take away all my worries. Such a belief is like invisible fentanyl, consuming one’s thoughts, energy, and wealth to fuel its addictive power.

As I observed, the skills needed to earn billions of dollars are no good for finding inner peace. No schemes, no tactics, no trades, and surely no wealth can bring the peace that I yearn for.

I do believe inner peace can be earned, though, by investing time to seek knowledge, facts, and truths, and surrounding oneself with good and honest people.

If I can be good at only one thing in my lifetime, let it be finding inner peace.
